NITDA, NCS BACK 3RD WEST AFRICA TELECOM SUMMIT & EXPO

Accra, 3rd May, 2016- With less than a month to go for the commencement of the West African Telecom Summit & Expo, the event has been a handed a major boost from major industry players. The latest to join the list of growing organizations supporting this all important event is the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) of Nigeria and the Nigeria Computer Society.

 

The 3rd West African Telecom Summit & Expo will bring together senior leaders in the IT & Telecommunications industry from across the sub region. The theme of the summit is “Connected Society; Connecting West Africa for Growth”, with emphasis on the presentation of new findings, innovations and stimulating discussions of the opportunities for future collaboration and achievements in our field.

 

Speaking to the media, Akin Naphtal, CEO of InstinctWave, organisers of the event expressed gratitude to the two organizations for coming on board to support the event. He further commended them for promoting technology to increase efficiency and grow our GDP, being part of this event make statement of commitment that technology is key towards our national development.

 

“This endorsement is enormous as it demonstrates industry support and belief in what we hope to achieve with WATSE 2016. I wish to commend NITDA and the Nigeria Computer Society for joining us in this journey. Your support will go a long way in encouraging other organizations to also come on board,” said an elated Akin Naphtal.

 

On his part, Dr Vincent Olatunji, acting Director General/CEO of NITDA noted that, NITDA will use the platform to compare notes with regulatory IT colleagues and stakeholders from West Africa on local capacity building and promotion of innovation and IT entrepreneurship.

 

According to Olatunji, “By participating in the West African Telecom Summit & Expo, we hope to articulate and share Nigeria’s framework for local content policy and how this is a win-win strategy for offshore investors and the domestic IT sector.  The boss of Nigeria’s IT clearinghouse is billed to make a presentation on local content development and policy using NITDA as  case study.

 

Also commenting on the development, President of the Nigeria Computer Society, NCS, Prof. Adesola Aderounmu said, “The Nigeria Computer Society is proud to be associated with the West African Telecom Summit & Expo. Counting on the success of previous years and its impact, we see this as a major platform to call for the support of locally developed applications and software in Nigeria and in the sub region.” The NCS is the largest body on the continent for IT professionals.

 

The 2016 West African Telecom Summit& Expo will be held in Accra at the Kempinski Gold Coast City Hotel, from Thursday, May 19 to Friday, 20 May 2016.

 

Now in its third year, attendance is a must for telecom and IT industry professionals, corporate users, carriers and manufacturers, financial analysts, consultants and investors.
