Nigeria’s 20 Most Outstanding Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) for 2021 are the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC), Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE), Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) and the Ministry of Education, according to a new update by Profiles & Biographies, a leading biographical documentation firm.
More than 160 MDAs were assessed. The evaluation was benchmarked on five criteria: Relevance, Efficiency, Effectiveness, Impact and Sustainability. Each MDA was assessed using the criteria in line with best global practice.
The Top 20 list also includes Ministry of Transportation, Ministry of Works, Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP), Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority, National Library of Nigeria, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Ministry of Women Affairs and Ministry of Niger Delta,
Others are the Ministry of Petroleum Resources, Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA), the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC), the Niger Delta Power Development Company Ltd, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Aviation and the Voice of Nigeria (VON).
According to a statement in Abuja this week by CEO, Profiles & Biographies, Mr. Kammonke Abam, the list is an update on the firm’s research and compilation of the accomplishments of MDAs to mark the sixth anniversary of the current administration.
“The assessment result is relative to the MDAs fulfilling their ministerial mandate in line with the administration’s 9-point development agenda, and his firm’s evaluation benchmark,” said Abam.
The NCC is Nigeria’s telecom regulator, mandated by law as “the independent National Regulatory Authority for the telecommunications industry in Nigeria” to create “an enabling environment for competition among operators in the industry as well as ensuring the provision of qualitative and efficient telecommunications services throughout the country.”
A 2020 ranking of MDAs by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) for compliance to ethics and integrity listed the NCC ahead of other sister agencies under the Federal Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy.
